When connecting new displays, Windows can sometimes be a little finnicky. Often, Windows will default to duplicating the original display, which is usually not the end goal of a user. To use a second display as a second functional screen, you will need to change the display settings of your machine. To do so, please follow these steps:
- Press "Windows + P"
to bring up the quick menu for projecting to a second screen.
- Select the projection style you would like to use
- "PC screen only" = only the primary display will show content. The secondary display will be blank.
- "Duplicate" = everything on your primary screen will be exactly duplicated to the secondary display. If this option is selected, Windows 11 automatically turns on "Do Not Disturb" if this display is disconnected and reconnected. For directions on how to turn off "Do Not Disturb," visit our support article on the matter.
- "Extend" = The secondary display will function as an extension of your primary display. To change where the secondary display is positioned relative to your primary display, please view our article on repositioning Windows displays.
- "Second screen only" = only the secondary display will show content. The primary display will be blank.
